Obstacle 4 – lack of shared values
This is a sad one. The obstacle here to campaigning comes down to not having shared values. Again as with earlier obstacles, it can help to be explicit about these values and not to base your actions on assumptions. Are we really a campaigning organisation agitating for change? Or are we not? But initiate this conversation – do not assume that you are all on the same page.
I think this is so important. Why are advocacy campaigns important to your organisation? The explicit answer to this question internally is just so important. Don’t assume that you all share the same answer. Your approach to campaigning will come down to your values and the mission that you all see for your organisation. Be clear on your mission, your values and why you might want to run an advocacy campaign. If you can be clear on all of those things, that is a mighty powerful platform from which to run an advocacy campaign.
